The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. was established as part of Nigeria’s power sector reform to build a reliable, transparent and efficient electricity market that supports national development.

Our Journey

2010

Incorporation

NBET was incorporated on 29th July 2010 as a public liability company, with FGN shareholding split between BPE and MOFI. 

2011

Commencement of Operations

NBET began operations in August 2011 following the inauguration of its pioneer Board of Directors.

2011

Market Stabilization

Entered into Power Purchase Agreements with generation companies and Vesting Contracts with distribution companies.

2011–2015

Investment & Market Development

Supported major power sector investments including Azura Power Project, NIPP plants and proposed solar IPP projects.

2016–2020

Strengthening the Market

Continued to support market efficiency, transparency and investor confidence in NESI.

Today

Driving the Future

NBET continues as administrator of the electricity trading pool, promoting procurement, resale and market growth.
